Jonah Rubin, Founder & CEO
Jonah Rubin, MD
Founder & Chairman

Jonah (Yonah) Rubin, from Riverdale, New York, spent two years in intense collegiate Talmud study at Yeshiva Shaar HaTorah in Queens, NY, before completing a bachelor’s degree in Biology at Yeshiva University in 2012. He received his medical degree from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and is now an Internal Medicine Resident at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center.

In sophomore year of college, Jonah founded College EDge as a student club after realizing that his students at the nearby George Washington High School, where he tutored, lacked resources for adequate college preparation. He conceived of and coordinated the First Annual College EDge Seminar & Fair Day, uniting Yeshiva University with NYC high schools, the NYC Department of Education, and NYC Council. Following its success, he expanded College EDge to include its monthly workshops and created an integrated mentorship program. As a medical student, he continued to lead the organization, now a registered Non-Profit in NYS with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status and expanding nationally.

In addition to College EDge, Jonah also founded the Non-Fiction Book Club at Yeshiva University. At Columbia P&S, he served as Chair of the Honor Code Committee, Director of the Student Success Network, Co-Director of the Clinical Correlates Course, Co-Founder and Co-Chair of the SLIM Curriculum Student Committee, and Director of the 2013 NEJM Summer Case Series, in addition to conducting and publishing clinical research.

Chaim Szachtel
Chief Executive Officer

Chaim Szachtel completed his BA in Biology at Yeshiva University in New York City in 2013. He then spent a year working as an advisor at Bronx Community High School where he primarily spent his time as an individual counselor and provided college and career guidance in addition to mental health counseling and life coaching. Chaim received his medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (AECOM) in 2018 and is now a Psychiatry Resident at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx.

While in college, Chaim volunteered as a tutor at a local public high school and found that his students were in severe need of guidance and support. Most of them lacked the knowledge of how to apply to college and nearly none of them had the skills to succeed there. Moreover, he discovered that many of his students came from a culture that did not value a college education at all. Chaim had faced several obstacles of his own when he sought to attend college and he was determined to make a difference. He joined College EDge at its founding; along with his team, he developed new events and programs for the organization and he continues to guide the current board as well. He works closely with the chapter presidents to make sure that every aspect of the program runs smoothly throughout the year.

Aside from his work with College EDge, Chaim has volunteered for several other organizations that serve the NYC and the Bronx communities and is involved in numerous other projects. Of note, has run a fundraiser for Lumos, presented his clinical research at several national conferences, volunteers to assist young men and women with professional development and career guidance, has gone on a 4-week fellowship to Argentina to study medical Spanish, gives lectures on a variety of subjects to medical and college students and he works with synagogues in the NYC area to develop programming for their congregants.

Lolita Wood-Hill
Chief Financial Officer

Lolita Wood-Hill is the Director of the Pre-Health Program at Yeshiva College for Men.  Previously Mrs. Wood-Hill was the Director of the premed programs at Hunter and City College of CUNY.  She has many years of experience working with students seeking admission to medical and dental school.  In particular, working to help diversify the health care field continues to be a passion.  Mrs. Wood-Hill has been recognized and awarded for her work and success in helping students achieve success in medicine and dentistry nationally. She also works closely with programs such as Mentoring in Medicine, Kaplan Test Prep, and other organizations.  She and her husband also volunteer to run financial aid and debt management workshops for pre-college and pre-professional school applicants.

College EDge came about from a conversation Mrs. Wood-Hill had with Yonah Rubin who was distressed to learn that his tutees were not well-versed about the process of applying to college.  He conceived of the idea and with a lot of tireless work, CE was launched! The annual fair gives students an opportunity to speak with colleges in one place and the mentoring and tutoring programs allow students to successfully obtain their goal to reach college by having someone work closely with them throughout the college admission process.  It has been a privilege to see the Yeshiva University community support the efforts of CE and an honor to personally participate each year.

Elianne Neuman
Chief Administrative Officer

Elianne Neuman is from Toronto, Canada and studied at Nishmat in Israel for a year before enrolling in Stern College. She is currently double majoring in History and Jewish Studies, and is in the BA/MA program with the Bernard Revel Graduate School of Jewish Studies.

Elianne’s decision to join College EDge was greatly influenced by her passion for education and public service: she volunteered at a local elementary school throughout high school, and worked as a Councillor’s Aide at Toronto City Hall for two summers prior to college. When she started Stern College in the Fall of 2012, Elianne began as a mentor and intern at College EDge, and was appointed as the Assistant Director of Mentorship in Spring 2013 and as Full Director that Fall. She was then promoted to President for the 2014-15 academic year, and now serves as the Chief Administrative Officer on the College EDge Non-Profit Board.

Aside from her involvement in College EDge, Elianne is also a staff member for the Yeshiva University National Model United Nations and the Assistant Editor of Kol Hamevaser, and was the Editor-in-Chief of Chronos, the History Journal of Yeshiva University. In addition to her experience as a Councillor’s Aide, Elianne has spent her summers working as a Constituency Assistant to a Member of Parliament of Canada, and most recently as a Policy Assistant to the Chair of the Toronto Transit Commission.
